not that bad.

Thanks to an extended transition from Atlanta to DC, life has forced me to sit still. This stillness allowed wounds to surface, particularly those incurred from #RapeCulture. As I previously mentioned in this post, Roxane Gay’s book Not That Bad: Dispatches from Rape Culture prompted some of my reflection and has been my guide. Below are my #sketchnotes from the book.

My wish for all of us is that we find the courage to peak inside the parts of us long hidden. With the knowledge that we won’t disappear into that darkness, and with the tools we need. The tools I’ve utilized over these past few weeks have been both new and old. I hope you find yours…

Acknowledging all my pain feels overwhelming. A friend reminds me that I don’t have to fix it all at once.

Allowing time and space to process wounds is isolating. Others’ stories provide solidarity.

Sitting with emotions long avoided causes physical discomfort and mental fatigue. Sketching brings clarity and helps release negative energy.

Love and light,

LK
